This Library was inaugurated at the Green Valley Academy, Sector 48, Noida on the 25th April 2021. The vision is to open up a new world of books to the children.The objectives of this resource of books made available under one roof is to enable children of GVA to read books on various subjects, expand their knowledge and awareness, inculcate a reading habit and improve their vocabulary, thus resulting in improving their capacity to perform and leap towards their goal.
This library, in memory of late Shri Krishnan IAS (Retd) is an initiative taken by his loving wife Dr Vasanthi Krishnan. She is the Chief Advisor of GVA. Dr Vasanthi believes that by initiating this small step of a library or resource centre of Knowledge and Learning in GVA, she will be able to kindle the interest and nurture their young minds to explore different subjects, read about environment, history, nature and life on this earth and universe.
About Shri S.Krishnan
Shri S. Krishnan’s parents came from a very humble background and enrolled him at the Delhi. Tamil Education Association (DTEA) School, Lodhi Road, near their house. After completing his schooling, Krishnan took admission in B.Tech. Engineering at Chennai. After his degree, he worked for 2 years, but then decided to take a shot at appearing in the All India Civil Services Examinations, under the Union Public Service Commission. He cleared the exams in the first attempt and in 1975, joined the Indian Administrative Service at the young age of 26 years. His cadre was Uttar Pradesh, where he worked at different positions in the government for the first 15 years of his career. In 1992- 93, Krishnan was nominated by the Government of India for the M.Sc (Social Policy and Planning ) Course at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, U.K.
Between 1994 and 2000, he again had various postings at the state and Central Government level. In 2000, with the formation of Uttarakhand, he was transferred to Dehradun, where he served the state till 2005. During his career spanning over 35 years, Shri Krishnan worked with both State and Central Government. He retired as Secretary, Department of Fertilizer in August 2010. A year later, the Government of India, appointed him as Chairperson, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, where he served till August 2015.
Shri S. Krishnan was well versed in Sanskrit, Hindi and English and very fond of books. He was also a keen listener and was always willing to learn, irrespective of whom he was learning from. He loved sitting in the corner of a room reading books. He had a habit of making notes in his diary as he read along. It was his way of understanding and using the knowledge when required. He introduced his two children to books at a very early age and whenever possible would read to them. This way, he developed a reading habit in his children, which they continue to this day and are encouraging in their children. A very humble and kind soul, he left this world on 6TH December 2019
